A Charlotte man, Tony Lamar Carthran, was sentenced on Mar. 12 to 126 months in prison and three years of supervised release for distributing methamphetamine, according to Russ Ferguson, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.

The sentencing highlights ongoing efforts by federal and local authorities to address drug trafficking in the Charlotte area.

According to court records, law enforcement began investigating Carthran for distributing methamphetamine in Charlotte. Between June and August 2023, Carthran sold methamphetamine on five occasions to an individual cooperating with law enforcement. During one of these transactions, he also sold a Ruger LC9s 9mm handgun with a live hollow point round chambered, an empty magazine inserted, and ten rounds of ammunition.

Carthran is currently in federal custody and will be transferred to the Federal Bureau of Prisons once a facility is designated. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Alfredo De La Rosa led the prosecution.
