Reginald Maraeus Moses, a 21-year-old Charlotte resident, has been sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for stealing firearms from a licensed dealer. The sentence also includes two years of supervised release after his prison term. The announcement was made by Russ Ferguson, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.

According to court records, on February 20, 2024, Moses used a stolen vehicle to crash into Carolina Sporting Arms Company at 8055 South Boulevard in Charlotte. He and an accomplice broke into the store and stole 20 firearms—18 handguns and two long guns.

Moses pleaded guilty to theft of a firearm from a licensed dealer as well as aiding and abetting that crime.

Alicia Jones, Special Agent in Charge of the ATF Charlotte Field Division, and Chief Johnny Jennings of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department joined U.S. Attorney Ferguson in announcing the sentencing. “In making today’s announcement, U.S. Attorney Ferguson thanked the ATF and CMPD for their investigation of the case.”

The prosecution was handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, which uses resources from several Department of Justice initiatives such as OCDETFs and Project Safe Neighborhoods to address violent crime connected with illegal firearms.
