The Conference of Chief District Court Judges announced on Apr. 28 that it is seeking public input on the statewide presumptive child support guidelines as part of its regular review process. The current guidelines can be reviewed online at NCcourts.gov, at the Office of Child Support Enforcement, and at the Office of the Clerk of Superior Court.

This review aims to ensure that court-ordered child support payments meet the reasonable needs of children for health, education, and maintenance. The judges consider various factors such as the estates, earnings, living conditions, and standard of living for both children and parties involved. They also take into account each party’s contributions to childcare and homemaking along with other relevant facts in individual cases.

Interested individuals are invited to provide feedback either in writing or by speaking at a public hearing. Comments should focus on general issues related to the guidelines rather than personal case histories. Each speaker will have up to five minutes to address their comments.

Written comments must be mailed by May 25, 2026, addressed to: N.C. Administrative Office of the Courts, Office of General Counsel, Attention: Guidelines Committee Staff, PO Box 2448, Raleigh, NC 27602.

The public hearing is scheduled for Thursday, June 4 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with sign-in beginning at 6:45 p.m., at the Highway Building Auditorium located at 1 S. Wilmington Street in Raleigh.
