Solamon Flores-Garcia, a 43-year-old Mexican national, has been sentenced to ten years in prison for his involvement in an armed carjacking and possession and brandishing of a firearm during a violent crime. The announcement was made by Russ Ferguson, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.
The sentencing follows an incident on October 24, 2023, where Flores-Garcia, who was residing illegally in Monroe, N.C., after previously being deported, committed the crimes. According to court documents and proceedings, he approached a neighbor’s home with a red handgun and demanded her wallet and car keys. After taking the victim’s car, he proceeded to La Chiquita Mexican store where he robbed the establishment at gunpoint.
James C. Barnacle Jr., Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in North Carolina, and Chief Rhett Bolen of the Monroe Police Department joined U.S. Attorney Ferguson in announcing the sentence.
Flores-Garcia was arrested shortly after fleeing from the robbery scene in the stolen vehicle. He remains in custody pending transfer to a federal facility designated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI and CMPD with prosecution handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte.
