The Middle District of North Carolina announced on Apr. 27 that it will co-sponsor a virtual POWER Act event scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, at 4:00 p.m. Eastern time.
The event is part of ongoing efforts to address domestic abuse and sexual violence by promoting pro bono legal services. The Pro Bono Work to Empower and Represent (POWER) Act was signed into law in September 2018 with the goal of helping survivors of domestic violence, stalking, and sexual assault.
Under the requirements of the POWER Act, each year the Chief Judge in every Judicial District across the United States must hold at least one event encouraging pro bono legal work as a way to empower survivors and engage community members. These events are designed to help lift victims out of cycles of violence by increasing access to legal resources.
Registration details and further information about this upcoming virtual session can be found through resources provided by the Northern District of New York.
The continued organization of such events reflects a broader national commitment to supporting survivors through accessible legal assistance.
