The North Carolina Judicial Branch has started the Celebration 250 campaign to mark two major anniversaries: the 250th anniversary of the United States’ founding in 1776 and the upcoming 250th anniversary of the North Carolina Constitution. The campaign is intended to recognize North Carolina’s role in shaping American democracy and its constitutional legacy.
Through Celebration 250, the Judicial Branch aims to highlight significant people, places, and events that influenced the legal system and established fundamental rights such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
As part of this initiative, a new webpage dedicated to Celebration 250 has been launched on NCCourts.gov. The site includes a message from Chief Justice Paul Newby, a historical timeline, educational resources for civic learning, and information about a speakers bureau that will be available for schools, civic groups, and faith-based organizations.
Chief Justice Newby stated in his special message: “The North Carolina Judicial Branch has been given the solemn and sacred task to help protect life, liberty, and property. When our citizens feel safe and secure, communities thrive. Life is cherished. Liberty is safeguarded. Property is protected.”
The public is encouraged by the North Carolina Judicial Branch to visit NCCourts.gov for more information about how they can learn from or take part in Celebration 250.
